Just a little set back...

Henry has been admitted to Magnolia Hospital. He had his shots Monday and seemed to be doing great, but yesterday afternoon he just quit eating. I wanted to wait until lunch today and see what our home health nurse thought. When he got to our house he said he wanted me to take him to Dr. Fowler because his breathing seemed to be more labored than usual. I immediately took him in and Dr. Fowler felt like he needed to be admitted to the hospital for tests and observation, with the possibility of having to be transferred to LeBonheur. His O2 sats were a little lower than we would like, so he has been placed on oxygen, but the plan is to try and wean him off tonight. He was dehydrated, so he has iv fluids to help keep him hydrated. Based on the tests this afternoon, we are thinking he might possibly have a viral infection. His xrays look good, and his blood gases were perfect, so we are hoping to get discharged tomorrow. Mark and I both have decided that we'll be cleaning our entire house with bleach this weekend, and may be asking every one who enters our home to wear a mask! (I'm joking about the mask!) Mark says he's not!
Please keep our little man in your prayers. I continue to pray that Henry and Harper will be able to avoid catching a cold, flu, viruses, and especially rsv in the months ahead. We are also praising God for blessing us with such a wonderful pediatrician and such a caring staff here at Magnolia! I know we are in great hands!

Oh, how we've grown!

It has been brought to my attention that our family would like to see more pictures of H&H.  I'm really slacking these days with updating the blog.  Mark and I keep joking that we can't imagine what in the world could be keeping us busy these days! Ha!  Truth is, we are really having a lot of fun with these two sweet peas.  Their little personalities are really starting to develop and it's so much fun to watch.  But, oh my gosh are we tired!  When the twins ever slow down long enough to nap or sleep, you can bet that we are napping and sleeping as well.

Henry's little surgical procedure that he had a few weeks ago went great.  In fact, he didn't even act like it bothered him at all!  He's truly the toughest little guy I've ever seen, and he's growing by leaps and bounds.  He now weighs 12 pounds 4 ounces!!  He loves his mommy.  We have been to Memphis twice this week for more doctor visits.  I am so proud to say that we were able to see a new pulmonologist.  We finally feel like we have a game plan as far as his health goes.  It seems that his lungs have slightly improved since he left the NICU.  Praise be to God!  We were also able to cut the dosage of his medicine in half.  However, we may have to go back to the full dose because Mark and I both feel like he has not been himself since we changed it.  I am also thrilled to say that we will not have to go back to Memphis for an entire month.  That may not seem very long to some, but to us, that seems like an eternity, and we'll take it!

Harper girl is just the sweetest, easiest baby ever.  I'm not sure when our little sassy pants mellowed out, but she is honestly so easy.  She rarely cries, and sleeps like, well, not a baby, ha, thats for sure.  She just adores Henry and her daddy.  It's so cute, when Henry is crying or having a fit, Harper gets this little look on her face like she wants to say, "Look at me!! I'm not crying!!"  It's precious and mischievous all at the same time.  She's also a little less serious these days.  She's starting to smile more and more.  When she smiles it's almost like she gets teased.  I'm just crazy about this sweet girl.  She now weighs 10 pounds!!!  She had her 4 month shots last week and did great.

I am trying to figure out how to upload videos on this blog.  We have some really cute ones of the twins that I'm dying to share.  Until then, here are some pictures from the past few weeks.

We ask that you keep sweet Henry in your prayers this coming week.  We start his 4 month shots on Monday.  I say start, because our pediatrician and our NICU doctors have come up with a plan to stretch out these shots over the next three weeks.  They, and we, are hoping that by doing this, he won't react as poorly to this round as he did the last.  His 2 month shots just about killed him.  Literally.  So, needless to say, I am very nervous about the next few weeks ahead.

Also, for all of you wonderful prayer warriors.  My sweet family has been so blessed and humbled by so many of you, and I can't begin to thank you enough.  That said, I would like to humbly as for your prayers for a family that I don't even know.  The only thing I know about this family is that they are from my hometown, and they have a faith in God that is truly inspiring.  This week on Facebook, I read about the Scott family and their precious little blonde haired baby girl named Tessa.  I do not know this little girl, but for some reason her picture just broke my heart.  I guess, in a way, I envisioned my sweet Harper each time I looked at her face.  Tessa went to be with Jesus this week.  Her family had to watch as the doctors turned off the machines that kept her alive.  I'm just asking that you please keep the Scott family in your prayers.  I can't possibly know what losing a child feels like.  I can only imagine, and each time I do, my heart aches.  Please pray for peace and comfort for this precious family.

Happy Labor Day

I am so very happy to report that Henry does NOT have pulmonary hypertension. Well, I should say he doesn't have it right now. The doctor would like for us to continue coming for EKG's just to keep a close watch on him in case he begins to develop it. This week we also had his blood gases checked, and I am so happy to say that his CO2 level was NORMAL!! What an answer to prayer!! Bless his heart, he's had a rough week, so we are taking this holiday weekend and relaxing! Lots of cuddle time for these two babies! My goal this weekend, if I don't do another thing, is to get sweet Harper on video smiling, and a video of Henry sneezing. It's the cutest thing in the world!

I realized today that this Labor Day weekend is the very first holiday that we get to spend as a family of four! I'm thanking God for His many blessings!! We have another rough week ahead as Henry is having a VERY MINOR surgical procedure on Wednesday! It's extremely routine, but I am still nervous! I will do a more detailed update next week on how that goes! Thank you all for your prayers! We continue to be humbled and blessed by the love being shown to our family! We are extremely grateful! Happy Labor Day!

Starting our Friday night with a little take out! :) Yummy!

Catching up on some movies! Watching movies these days is a little different! Lots of pauses to say the least!

A Praise and a Prayer Request

Wednesday was a very eventful day at our house.  As I said in the last post, Henry and Harper both had doctor visits in Memphis.  Mark and I, in our naiveté, had envisioned the day a little differently than it went down.  For one, we had hopes of stopping by the 4th floor of Le Bonheur, since we were already at the hospital, to say hello to all of our friends that we so dearly miss.  And two, we had hoped for a better report for Henry.  Needless to say, our day did not go as we planned.  But of coarse, we have learned through this journey that our plans are not always the best.  All was not lost though, we have a HUGE praise for our sweet Harper girl!

With two babies, whom we have never traveled with at the same time, my nerves were already frazzled by the time we arrived in Memphis at 8:30.  Yes, did I mention that I'm INSANE and scheduled Henry's appointment at 8:30 a.m.??  His appointment was with the pediatric pulmonologist.  Mark and I were hoping that this visit would give us some information as to how Henry's lungs have progressed since we left the NICU.  Mark and I were a little disappointed when a completely different doctor than the one we saw in the NICU came into the room.  Mark and I both felt like this visit was more like a "new patient" visit, rather than a follow up.  So, we were a little frustrated from the start.  Not to mention we had to wait an hour in the waiting room only to be taken back and wait another hour.  Wow, am I the complainer or what?!  :)
We had a list of questions for this doctor, and he didn't seem to really answer any of them.  What we did find out is that Henry's oxygen saturation was a little lower than we would like for it to be.  The doctor said this concerned him.  He said he felt like Henry could possibly have pulmonary hypertension.  We also found out, thanks to our sweet pediatrician who had to call and hunt down these results,  that his blood gases have gone up.  All the more reason this new doctor feels as though Henry could have pulmonary hypertension, in addition to chronic lung disease.  We are scheduled to meet with a pediatric cardiologist Monday for more testing.  Poor baby, his whole life has consisted of being poked and proded.  As of now, it is looking very likely that Henry will have to be placed on oxygen again.  To what extent we don't know.  Please, please keep our little man in your prayers.  We are just praying so hard that this blood gas was just a one time thing, and that the next one will be normal.  We are also praying that the tests he has done at the cardiologist visit will all be normal and will rule out pulmonary hypertension.  While we were there, the new doctor did make appointments for us to meet with a GI specialist because Henry's reflux seems to be getting worse.  I am looking forward to this visit because I am ready to get his reflux under control once and for all.

Our HUGE praise is that Harper girl's eyes are fully vascularized!!  Praise God!!  At her last visit, one of her eyes had an area that had not even started to vascularize.  The doctor told me that day that I didn't need to start worrying yet.  Ha!  You can't tell a mom that!  But, turns out she was so right, our little Harper girl's eyes are great!  We go back with both of them in December, but that will just be a routine follow up visit.

I keep telling myself that God has gotten us this far, and that I have so much to be thankful for, but it's really hard not to get discouraged after a day like this.  Henry has been doing so good at home, or so we thought.  He is just the happiest little baby.  I mean, he smiles all the time.  You would never know that he is sick.  The doctor did tell me, again, that we must keep him isolated during the RSV and flu season.  Henry has come too far to let something like that be the thing that sets him back.  Or worse, but I can't even go there.  I guess this doctor's visit was just a wake-up call for Mark and me.  We've sort of become relaxed about his health.  He was doing so well that it was sort of easy to forget just how sick he still is, and just how far he has to go before he is truly well.

God continues to pour out his blessings on our little family.  NOTHING is impossible through Him.  His plans are far better than anything I could plan or even imagine, so we are just resting in that promise, and just asking you to please keep him, and Harper, in your prayers.  We are so grateful for those prayers, and for the love that our friends, family, and strangers have shown us!  God is good!

This is what Harper thought about getting up so early!  No smiles whatsoever!
